This leopard is an endemic sub species, scientifically known as Panthera Kotiya, the top predator of Sri Lanka. As to a survey carried out by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Dept. of Wildlife Conservtion, there are 23 adult leopards and 2 cubs in Hortan Plains, Sri Lanka where I have seen this leopard. They are listed as endangered.
